BONE HEALTH

ORTHOPEDICS

Over 50 million Americans suffer from low bone density and poor bone health. MPOWERHealth brings together a range of specialists to help treat these issues and avoid further complications arising from conditions such as osteoporosis.

HIGH STANDARDS FOR CARE & SAFETY

The treatment you receive is set to the highest of standards. Your physician will provide quality that meets or exceeds standards set by the most respected orthopedic associations in the nation. These include standards that have been established by the National Quality Forum, the National Osteoporosis Foundation, and the American Orthopaedic Association.

CONDITIONS WE TREAT

Depend on our doctors to diagnose and treat:

  • Calcium deficiency (hypocalcemia) – a lack of the mineral calcium in the body
  • Fragility fracture – broken bone caused by a fall or injury
  • Hyperparathyroidism – when overactive parathyroid glands cause too much calcium in the blood (hypercalcemia)
  • Insufficiency fracture – a type of stress fracture (broken bone) due to bone weakness
  • Non-healing fractures – broken bones that do not heal after routine treatment
  • Osteopenia – when bones are weak but not as severely as bones with osteoporosis
  • Osteoporosis – weak or brittle bones due to aging, lack of calcium or vitamin D, or hormone changes
  • Vitamin D deficiency – a lack of vitamin D, a nutrient that helps the body make strong bones

OSTEOPOROSIS PREVENTION AND CARE

Our doctors can help you determine whether or not you’re at risk for osteoporosis or osteopenia. Various screenings and imaging tests can be used, such as DEXA scans. Tests like these analyze the density of your bones. From this point your doctor will be able to recommend treatment options such as exercise, medications, as well as lifestyle changes that will help to increase the strength of your bones.

YOUR CARE PLAN

At your first appointment, you’ll receive a full examination. Depending on the outcome of this evaluation your doctor may recommend many courses of treatment, including:

  • Calcium & Vitamin D Intake
  • Education about your condition
  • Exercise, core strengthening, and balance training
  • Fracture or trauma care
  • Lifestyle changes for overweight patients to support bone health
  • Lifestyle changes for underweight patients to support bone health
  • Nutrition planning
  • Osteoporosis screening & prevention
  • Pain management options
  • Physical therapy
  • Prescription medications
  • Risk factor reduction in your home to prevent falls and fractures [PDF]
